Workout/ Yoga Shoot

Simply put I shot some yoga and workout photos in the Studio recently. Here are some of the shots.

Skating at the Studio

Just a few skateboarding shots at the new studio, not much more to say then that.

Light Testing on the Greenway

I had been wanting to shoot some more biking lately as well as work on some lighting ideas for outdoors action. Normally I don’t light things unless it is in the shade or at night because of the motion blur that tends to occur when you can’t kill the ambient light from the sun with the strobes.  One way to get around that is by panning your camera as the subject moves past. This is a skill I have totally SUCKED at and wanted to work on. I have a better feel for panning my shots not though my lighting was still not ideal. The best thing to do is shoot shoot and shoot some more. It is always a learning process that is why I love doing what I do. Every time I pick up my camera I learn something new that helps me improve my work even if the entire test shoot fails to get what I was intending on capturing.

Test Shoot: Running with Jodi

I had been wanting to shoot running for over a year now so a friend put me in contact with Jodi. She is a super badass mom, trainer and triathlete. She was more then excited to shoot and meet a total stranger “down by the river”. I am super happy with the outcome of our short shoot and look forward to doing some more work this summer with her.

Some Urban

I headed out the other day to get some shots with a few kids that are on the team I coach. They were trying to finish up a few shots for Micheal Hibb’s Super Unknown edit. He unfortunately was forced, by his mother, to go to soccer practice. We hit up two features; first was Mike’s parking lot “quarter pipe” then, after a short BK lounge break,  we went to a classic MN rail that has been capped for the last few year but thanks to an unnamed snowboard crew the rail is now cleared for our sliding enjoyment.

Quick Pick #3

I spent my weekend in Duluth Minnesota to shoot with Willie Borm at Spirit Mountains jump line. This photo sums up the weekend rather well, fun times with close friends.

Powder Outtakes

Last week I took on the task of driving 16 hours from Minnesota all the way out to Breckenridge Colorado. I came out here to shoot with my friend and pro skier Alex Schlopy and a few other skiers. Last night Alex and I set out to get a few lifestyle shots of him as well as a couple powder shots; here are a few “outtakes” from the evening.

Most Played Rail in all of Minnesota

This past week was a treat, we received our first big snowfall of the year which was quite a bit earlier then normal.  With this fresh snow brings one thing to Minnesota skiers(as well as our silly brothers on the mono-plank) and that is URBAN.  I got the call that a few locals were at the Braemar rail. For you that do not live in MN, The Braemar rail is one of the top 5 most played, most hit rails in all the State. None the less I figured I would head out there to just grab a few shots since I had nothing better to do.  I grabbed two cameras out of my car, my Holga loaded up with Illford hp5 and my 5d with a 50 1.4.  All the photos here are from my 5d, I have yet to develop the roll of film from my Holga. Over all it was rather uneventful but was nice to get out there and shoot with some of the local kids on their first urban day of the season.

First Urban Mission of the Season

Well its about that time of year, things are cooling down and that means one thing…Time to start shooting skiing again.  Duluth Minnesota got a few inches on October 27. I found out in the morning and right away called some friends up there to see if it was worth the 3 hour drive, it was. I kept things simple for this shoot and really only used my 5d and 50 1.4 lens though I did take a few shots with my Holga as well as my 7d.  None of the photos are really “worth” anything but to say I shot rails in October and to see good friends was worth the trip alone.

Winching Southern Minnesota

Last week my friends Josh Tranby and Adam Buck headed down to Southern Minnesota where heavy rain had caused major flooding. We brought a winch with us and were able to find a few spots to hit while we were there. At first we were not sure if we would do anything, we felt bad that peoples homes were being flooded and thought it would be rude to “make light of a serious situation”. One spot we were scoping out was next to some homes that were at risk of being flooded. We helped move sandbags with one family then asked if they would be cool if we winched near their home. They were delighted and were nothing less then stoked to see Josh rip it up in the flood waters.  In the end it was a great experience and a fun day.
